Facundo Medina played 26 games for OM (Olympique de Marseille) in 2025-2026. He knows because Canal+ asked him, and he checked for himself first: “How many games did I play? 26?” Then he described those 26 games with a word I’m not copying into my notebook, and finished with: “I did nothing.”
Silly question, but I thought a footballer’s interview came with compulsory phrases. I have a whole tab for them: “one game at a time”, “there are positives”, “the group is in a good place”. I reread the tab. None of those phrases is for saying you did nothing. I checked, and actually nobody has planned one.
The numbers, at least, are simple. He arrived from Lens in summer 2025 for €18 million, after five years there. He left this summer for Leverkusen and OM received €25 million. That is the club’s second-biggest sale of the summer, behind Mason Greenwood, €39 million to Fenerbahçe. So a player who says he did nothing was resold for more than he cost. I underlined that twice.
At Leverkusen he quickly became a starter under Carles Martínez Novell. The club is fourth in the Bundesliga and second in the Europa League. OM have zero points after three matchdays and want to take their first one in Germany on Thursday.
And for the reunion, there, Medina went back to a vocabulary I know: “It’s going to be special, I’m happy. I’m going to see my teammates and my friends again. Honestly, I’m excited.” That one I filed under the normal tab.
A player who tells the truth in an interview, Louise, that’s historic. I’m weighing my words.
Basketball counts games too, I looked. You don’t mark them yourself. Anyway, I still have a lot to learn.
It’s true, we checked: RMC Sport.
