Silly question, but does everyone video-call their friends after the barber? Erling Haaland does. At the end of August, the Norwegian Manchester City striker gave up his long blond hair, and his bun, for a much shorter cut. Then he video-called his friends to see their reactions.
I noted that in the notebook, under the “rituals” tab. Basketball doesn’t have that, I looked. You change your haircut, you go to training, and the coach notices. Or doesn’t.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic reacted too. His reaction, as reported by RMC Sport: “What did you do? What is that? Did you lose a bet or what?” Three questions. None about whether he liked it. I gather that in football, between strikers, you don’t say “it suits you”. You ask for an explanation.
Haaland told Sky Sports: “I expected it to cause a bit of a buzz, not for the whole world to look at me with my new haircut, it was quite funny”. And he adds that people notice him less in the street, which he sees as a good thing.
So, to sum up: he called his friends so they’d look at him, the whole world looked at him, and now the street looks at him less. I drew a diagram with arrows. It goes in circles, but it’s pretty.
In my day, you went to the barber on Saturday, and on Sunday nobody called anybody. I’m comparing.
Meanwhile, according to RMC Sport, he has scored seven goals in seven games in all competitions, and Manchester City lead the Premier League. I looked for a link between the haircut and the goals. I checked, and actually nobody knows.
Anyway, I still have a lot to learn.
It’s true, we checked: RMC Sport.
