An airline that removes a seat for a player. That’s historic. I’m weighing my words.
Transavia has removed seat 7C from the seat map on its flights to Funchal. To honour Cristiano Ronaldo, who announced his farewell to the Portugal team this week. The 7, his shirt number for almost his whole international career. Funchal, his home town. They thought of everything, you know.
On Instagram, the airline wrote: “CR7 is hanging up his boots, our seats numbered 7C have now also been removed for our flights to Funchal”. With a photo of a Ronaldo shirt laid on an aeroplane seat. A shirt that has its place on board. Me, I had to fight for seat 14 with my season ticket.
And the numbers. Twenty-three years. 234 caps. 146 goals, 99 more than Pauleta, in second. Ninety-nine. That’s not a gap any more, it’s a different league. Historic, really. Well, not bad.
I posted all of it in “Sunday Devils”. My brother-in-law asked if they’d remove my seat 14 the day I stop. I said I’m not stopping. He sent a thumbs-up. That thumb is a disgrace. I’m weighing my words.
In my minibus, if you take away a seat, two players are left on the pavement. And we play with nine.
O Jogo writes that the tribute marks the end of one of the most remarkable phases of his career. I’m not saying that because I’m a supporter. I’m not even Portuguese. But I looked at the price of a flight to Funchal, avoiding 7C. Out of respect.
Now we take it one game at a time, you know.
It’s true, we checked: VoetbalPrimeur.be.
