The news that overlaps a little

Two goals ruled out for Erenbjerg at Genk: Nadine’s thermometer reads two and zero

Jeppe Erenbjerg saw both his goals ruled out for offside on Saturday against KV Mechelen. The Genk striker, who scored thirteen for Zulte Waregem last season, is still on zero after ten games, with three assists.

Nadine in the stands holds a broken-looking thermometer and a notebook with two pencilled goals, a linesman with raised flag behind.

Two goals. On Saturday, against Mechelen, Jeppe Erenbjerg put the ball in the net twice. That’s historic. I’m weighing my words. And then both were chalked off for offside. That’s a disgrace. I’m weighing my words too, it’s just that they’re different words.

I put a message in the “Sunday Devils” WhatsApp group at the first ball. Twelve thumbs up. At the second, I waited. I’m learning.

I’m doing the sums. Thirteen goals last season at Zulte Waregem. €5.5 million paid by Genk this summer. Ten games, zero goals, three assists. Three assists, there are positives. A striker who sets the others up, that’s a group in a good place, you can tell.

My brother-in-law, who supports the other club, replied that zero is zero. I muted him. Not a bad reply, I think.

He started against Mechelen because Daan Heymans, who took his place in the starting eleven, was suspended. Heymans is available again. And on Sunday, Genk travel to Union Saint-Gilloise, with two points from five away games and a gap to the top four that keeps growing. Away, on top of that. It’s freezing in November, that never helps a striker.

A disallowed goal is still a ball in the net. The net remembers.

Marcel · the nostalgic, fictional character

Me, I’m keeping both in my stand notebook, in pencil. Historic, really. Well, almost. Now we take it one game at a time.

It’s true, we checked: Voetbalkrant.

The editor-in-chief chose this one: « Nadine tient l'oscillation de son thermomètre sur un seul fait, avec deux images de vécu nettes et sans pique contre le joueur. Les trois autres sont propres mais tièdes. »
