RWDM to get its name back in November: Nadine renames her WhatsApp group

RWDM asked the Belgian football federation in August to be called simply “RWDM” again, COO Bernard Stas told Brussels outlet BRUZZ. The club has officially been “RWDM Brussels” since a compromise John Textor reached in 2025 after supporter protests.

Nadine, phone in hand, watches a club worker swap a long banner for a shorter one while her brother-in-law searches for a button.

RWDM is going to be RWDM again. That’s historic. I’m weighing my words. COO Bernard Stas confirms the club has a procedure under way with the federation to be called simply “RWDM” once more. Goodbye to “Brussels” on paper, if the request is approved.

And at the same time, it’s the third name change in a little over a year. A disgrace. I’m weighing those words too. I change my parking space less often than that, and yet I’ve been moved twice.

Let me replay it, because my WhatsApp group asked. On 1 July 2025, under former American owner John Textor, the club became “Daring Brussels”. Molenbeek supporters pushed back hard: their four letters were vanishing from the official name. Four weeks of protests, press releases and petitions later, John Textor opted for a compromise: “RWDM Brussels”. Four weeks, four letters. I’m not saying it’s a sign. Well, yes I am.

Bernard Stas gave BRUZZ the timetable: “In August we submitted an official request to the Federation to change our name, but processing it takes at least three months. The name change should therefore take effect in November.” November will be freezing, but the name will be warm.

The best part is that the club from the Edmond Machtens stadium has hardly ever waited for the paperwork. In its daily communication it barely uses the full name. On its official channels, it’s “RWDM”. There are positives: the club already has the right name, it just needs the stamp.

Silly question, but if the club already writes “RWDM” everywhere, what changes in November, apart from the paperwork?

Louise · the intern, fictional character

Nothing else, Louise, and that’s already a lot. I’ve renamed my group three times this season for less than that, and my brother-in-law still hasn’t found the button. Now we take it one procedure at a time, eh.

It’s true, we checked: Voetbalkrant.
