The news that overlaps a little

Saint-Maximin turns down €26m for Hélios, Nadine compares it with her season ticket

Allan Saint-Maximin told The Athletic he rejected a 26 million euro offer to buy Hélios, the free digital card game he created at the end of 2021. The game’s Instagram account has been announcing something new for several weeks.

Nadine sits in the stands comparing her season ticket card with a card game on her phone, a cone of fries on her knee.

Twenty-six million euros refused. For a card game. That’s historic. I’m weighing my words.

Allan Saint-Maximin, the Charlotte FC forward, created Hélios at the end of 2021. A two-player game inspired by President, the card game, with Greek gods stepping in when a round gets stuck. Someone offered him 26 million to buy it, he told The Athletic, and he said no. His explanation, reported by RMC Sport: “It’s not a question of money. It’s about creating something, creating jobs, creating opportunities.”

I posted that in “Sunday Devils” at half-time, chip cone in hand. Twelve members. My brother-in-law replied that refusing that much was a disgrace. I replied that it was historic. We were both right, I think, but him less so.

Me, I compare it with my season ticket, seat 14 in stand 2. The price goes up every season, and nobody has ever offered to buy it off me. Hélios, meanwhile, is free. More than 1,000 downloads on Google Play, tournaments every week and every month, with earphones or games consoles to win. Free, with prizes. I’m not saying that because I’m a supporter. Well, yes. A bit, of him.

And now the suspense. For several weeks, the Instagram account has been posting mysterious messages. One of them says: “Hélios is evolving, a new chapter is coming. Are you ready?” I read that like a European draw. It’s a sign. Of what, I don’t know yet.

A card that discards the opponent’s best card, Nadine. I want one for Sunday.

Freddy · the gaffer, fictional character

That’s Hades, that one. Artemis lets you give one of your cards to the opponent. The group is in a good place, you can tell. Now we take it one game at a time, you know.

It’s true, we checked: RMC Sport.
